We live in an exciting period where we witness exciting developments in theoretical physics and their confirmations from a vast range of increasingly sophisticated experiments. Among these stands quantum theory - one of the pillars of modern physics - which is not particularly intuitive but gives predictions that stand through numerous experimental tests. While one who insists on having an intuitive understanding of the world around us might see these counterintuitive features as a nuisance, the latter turns out to play also an important part in the still burgeoning field of quantum information, thereby leading us to the so-called 2nd quantum revolution.
The modest goal of this research group is to make progress, bits by bits, towards our understanding of quantum theory, or more precisely, the world depicted by this amazingly successful theory. In doing so, we hope to identify the physical principles ( rather than the rules ) that actually underlie our physical world, as well as the limitations that they set on our understanding of the world and the benefits that they may bring to our daily life in the form of novel technologies.
